Principles of odour impact are discussed including odour concentration, intensity and hedonic tone. Introductory knowledge of sampling techniques and odour measurement  both in-field and in-laboratory. Bases of odour nuisance laws both in Canada and internationally is covered. Odour abatement technologies and process changes for odour mitigation is explained.

All aspects of air sampling odour assessment is discussed including area source sampling, stack sampling, and ambient air sampling. Principles of dilution and neat sampling are explained for reduction of condensation and odour degradation is explained.

Covers all technologies used for odour abatement including Carbon filters, thermal oxidizers, scrubbers, bio-filters, and UV filters. The impact of regulating bodies, cost of implementations, process modification or substitutions in determining the ideal abatement solution is covered.

This course covered all aspects of odour measurement using field olfactometery. Proper methods of assessing odour emissions from point sources such as stacks is covered. The combination of field olfactometery with other sampling equipment for area sources such as waste piles and liquid surfaces. Challenges and proper technique for measuring active sources such as bio-filters are also discussed in detail. Finally ambient odour assessment using field olfactometery is discussed. Lastly the proper calibration and maintenance of the instrument is also covered.

Reporting for odour impact and maintaining good records for internal reporting or reporting to governing bodies.

This course is designed to introduce students to the laws and the relationships between public policies and the odour legal system structure.

This course provides you with extensive knowledge on the best practices and modern technologies used for effective odour complaint management. The focus is on developing methodologies to route odour complaints to the facility instead of the regulator. Students will learn techniques on how to verify, record, and deal with odour complaints. Examples of public relation strategies for complaint reduction are presented, which can be implemented with or without odour abatement technologies. Students will learn to implement a solution of combining field olfactometer and Total Odour Management software (TOMS) to provide real-time visual data on the facilities odour impact as well as to automatically gather, validate and record the odour complaints from the neighboring residents.

Odour emission source identification and ambient monitoring plan and abatement technologies commonly used for waste-water treatment plants.

Odour emission source identification and ambient monitoring plan and abatement technologies commonly used for compost facilities

This program provides all the necessary skills and knowledge to conduct in-field odour analysis. Graduates will be able to conduct ambient air monitoring, determine source emissions and measure and  provide official reports on odour impact on neighboring residence.

The program includes:

OD101 - Introduction to Odour Assessment, Mitigation and Regulation

OD204 - Odour Analysis using field Olfactometery

OD208 - Odour Reporting and evaluation

This program provides all the necessary skills and expertise to conduct proper odour sampling for odour analysis. This includes area source sampling, stack sampling, as well as ambient air sampling. Graduates are able to determine proper sampling methodology, equipment and storage/transportation techniques to ensure proper sample representation and to minimize odour degradation.

The program includes:

OD101 - Introduction to Odour Assessment, Mitigation, and Regulation

OD202 - Sampling Methods & Techniques - Stack and Ambient

This program is  designed to provide environmental supervisors with extensive knowledge and expertise in assessing and reducing the facilities odour impact. All aspects of inspection, reporting, mitigation, complaint management and odour laws are covered.

The program includes:

OD101 - Introduction to Odour Assessment, Mitigation and Regulation

OD202 - Sampling Methods and Techniques - Stack & Ambient

OD204 - Odour Analysis using field Olfactometery

OD203 - Introduction to Odour Control Strategies

OD208 - Odour Reporting and Evaluation

OD210 -  Odour Regulations and Laws

The Odour consultant graduate will have all the necessary skills and expertise to provide odour sampling, analysis, reporting and mitigation. They will be knowledgeable in the local laws and regulations governing odour nuisance. The odour consultant will also have in-dept knowledge of all available odour abatement technologies.

The program includes:

OD101 - Introduction to Odour Assessment, Mitigation and Regulation

OD202 - Sampling Methods and Techniques - Stack & Ambient

OD204 - Odour Analysis using field Olfactometery

OD203 - Introduction to Odour Control Strategies

OD210 -  Odour Regulations and Laws

OD306/307 - Odour Control Plans

OD208 - Odour Reporting and evaluation
